Important Announcement (Store Closing)

Dear Customers,

It is with deep regret that we inform you that we will be closing the store June 14th, 2014. We thank you for decades of wonderful customer interactions and many happy memories.

Fifty-two years ago Glen and Dorothy Cameron opened a small store in the basement of their home, founded on a dream that started when they were dating. The dream became a reality, and grew bigger than they could ever have imagined.

Times have changed as have our customers’ shopping habits. While we still consider the products that we sell to be life-shaping, the ‘Local Christian Bookstore’ is no longer the primary place to purchase them.

The plans for the next 3 months are exciting! We will be offering you the best selection of Christian resources ever – at outstanding prices.

Be sure to watch your email and home mailbox for some very special sales events. Our first big event is coming up April 24th with our Spring Warehouse Sale. We’ve purchased several skids of new products at deep discounts and it’s at this event that we’ll share more details of our Grand Finale Sale to follow!

Thank you for 52 years of business and friendship. We have loved being part of your lives and we look forward to connecting with you over these next 10 weeks.

Stuart Cameron and the entire staff and family

Our History

It all began in a basement in 1962

Most great things start with a dream or vision and such was the case with the start of Cameron’s. Prior to their marriage in 1949 Glen and Dorothy Cameron talked of many things for their future and one of them was a dream of owning a Christian Bookstore.

In August of 1962 the dream became a reality with the arrival of their first shipment of books to their Argyle Rd. home in Windsor. Several weeks later the arrival of Stuart, their sixth child, came along too and it became obvious that the house would not be big enough for business and family.

Cameron’s first “store-front” location was opened n 1963 as the business was moved from the Argyle home to a 500 square-foot location at 1236 Tecumseh Rd. E. Space was still at a premium so the washrooms served as the shipping and receiving room as well. The first “cash register” was a cigar box and daily sales ranged from $2.00 to $36.00.

In 1967 the store moved to 1577 Tecumseh (at Lincoln), where it grew for the next twenty years.

After graduating from high school, Bob and Stuart began to run the store and moved it to 5400 Tecumseh Rd. E. and eventually to the Roundhouse Centre and finally to 2001 Provincial Rd.

Over the decades we have seen many changes: music has evolved from records to eight tracks to cassettes, CD’s and downloads. Book prices have risen slightly from a typical price in 1962 of .39 cents. But some things remained the same: our customers and friends have been as supportive and faithful as ever and God has been gracious and met our needs every step along the journey.
